The word Soma means experiencing the body from within. The word somatic in this context refers to the practice of movement that is educational, using therapeutic movement sequences to create opportunities to strengthen the brain-to-muscle connection. These slow and focused movements initiate the sensory motor cortex of your brain, not always accessed in our everyday movements. This is the conscious movement part of your brain that has the capacity to override habitual patterns of movement and postures that unconsciously contributing to pain and stress within the body. Once you have the understanding that how you hold yourself and move throughout your day may be lending itself to the acute or chronic discomfort and pain you experience within your body, you will have the self-empowering tools to ease this pain and be able to unwind and relax more fully. This is a powerful understanding of the body that is science & heart based.

Wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in. Sessions are performed lying on a massage table, sitting in a chair or on the floor with a mat and props depending on what seems most appropriate for your body’s needs. Each session begins with an assessment based on posture, movement and your experience of your own body. As a Somatic Movement Educator and Licensed Massage Therapist, Crystal will guide you through the somatic movement flows consciously offering hands on adjustments when appropriate for the purposes of educating the brain-to-muscle connection. You will be guided to connect with your own body & release areas of tension.
