We are inextricably tied to the breath in our lives, and its deepening, lengthening and retention are at the heart of Yoga practice. In this workshop we will explore the fundamental pranayama practices of Hatha Yoga and the basics of energetic anatomy that correspond to them. Pranayama, ‘Prana’ meaning Lifeforce energy and ‘Yama’ meaning to discipline, is the practice of cultivating, balancing and amplifying your Lifeforce by means of various Breath practices. In Yoga practice as we begin to activate our energy centers through physical movement and posture practice, we encourage the flow of energy and circulation through our awareness of and ability to guide and control the breath.

Some benefits of working with the breath in these ways are:

- Cultivate resilience to better cope with a variety of stress related issues (anxiety, depression, headaches, etc...)

- Regulates the function of the autonomic nervous system and assists in deep relaxation

- Gain a sense of groundedness within challenging situations

- Daily practice can create a steadiness of mind and strong will

- Deepening of your Yoga practice and prepares the mind for Meditation

In this workshop, you will:

- Gain an understanding of energetic anatomy and how it relates to the breath, as well as Yoga practice in general

- Practice several pranayama techniques after moving through a preparatory posture practice

- Identify what makes these practices effective

- Learn tools to better manage and relieve tension and stress in your daily life.
